Shadow Mode

Validate a challenger model against live originations before you touch production.

Run a challenger model read-only alongside your production engine. Every live application is scored by both models — production model writes to the LOS, challenger writes to the analytics store only. Measure lift on real originations before any production switch. Under SR 11-7 guidance, a read-only shadow observation period does not typically trigger a full model validation cycle at mid-market lenders — we provide the governance documentation to support that position.

How shadow mode works — without touching production

Shadow mode is not a pilot program. There is no traffic split, no A/B test, no risk of the challenger making real decisions. Every application flows through the production engine as normal. The shadow runner reads the same application data, scores it with the challenger model, and writes the result to an analytics store only. The LOS never sees the challenger output.

Read-only challenger execution

The challenger model sees every live application in real time. Its score and factor outputs are stored in the analytics schema, not the operational decision record.

Zero production data written back

The shadow data path is write-isolated from the production path at the system level. There is no configuration path that allows shadow output to flow into the LOS.

Lift measurement on real originations

After 30 days, the shadow dashboard shows: how often the challenger would have approved what production declined, and at what predicted default rate. Real lift, real signal.

MRM governance framing

Shadow mode running read-only does not typically trigger a full model validation cycle at mid-market lenders under SR 11-7 guidance. We provide the governance documentation to support that position.

Lift Measurement

Measuring lift without waiting for outcomes to mature

You can't wait 18 months for charge-off data to validate lift. Shadow mode uses predicted probability differentials and score distribution analysis to give a directional lift estimate within 30 days of real origination signal.

Score distribution overlap analysis

Visualize where the challenger score and production score diverge most. The divergence zones tell you where the model adds unique signal vs. where it agrees with your rules.

Model handoff readiness report

At the end of the shadow period, Prism Layer generates a model handoff package: lift estimate, fair lending impact, score stability metrics, and a governance checklist for your model risk committee.

30 days of real signal. No production traffic, no MRM cycle. We handle the setup.
